David Cargill

David Cargill is a highly experienced Scottish angler whose fishing journey began at just five years old on the famous salmon rivers of Scotland.

Growing up targeting salmon and sea trout, David developed a deep respect for traditional river fishing and went on to ghillie for several high-profile anglers, including Scottish and Celtic football legend Tommy Gemmell.

David first discovered sea fishing at the age of ten from Eithie Mains in Arbroath, catching mackerel from the shore — a moment that sparked a lifelong passion. He went on to achieve one of Scotland’s most notable angling records, landing the largest recorded sea trout in Scotland at 12.5lb, alongside salmon to 20lb and countless other fish.

Now living just 20 minutes from Arbroath — a location synonymous with cod fishing — David has firmly established himself on the competitive scene, winning multiple cod matches and the Arbroath Cod League. While sea fishing remains his true passion, his angling now spans the length and breadth of Scotland.

Throughout both summer and winter, David spends most weekends on Scotland’s west coast targeting common skate, spurdog, and rays, with personal bests including a 229lb common skate and 16lb spurdog. He has also fished internationally in Norway, Menorca, and Gran Canaria, with further overseas trips planned.

One of David’s proudest achievements is representing Scotland at international level, where he was part of the gold-medal-winning team in 2023. Having competed in many high-profile matches, he has consistently proven himself as a skilled, dedicated, and adaptable angler.

David’s go-to setup is the Assassin Beachcaster No.7, paired with a Penn 8500LL, a combination he trusts to handle the toughest Scottish conditions and the hardest-fighting fish. His favourite species to target is the common skate, which he describes as one of the most majestic and mysterious fish in UK waters.
